It's Okay To Seek Something Casual

Over the last week, several friends have reminded me of a simple, but subtle fact. Just because you’re single, doesn’t mean you need to seek a relationship. It’s okay to seek something casual. Sometimes you just want sex, and there’s nothing that will stop you from doing just that. There are boundaries and levels of respect you must have while seeking  casual relationships, otherwise you’re just acting out your horny endeavors. Just because you’re not ready for a long-term relationship, doesn’t mean you should have a string of one-night stands. There’s nothing healthy about that.

While seeking casual relationships, you must have respect for the other person. They aren’t some sort of thing, or automatic booty call at your own desire. While the nature of your relationship may revolve around sex, that doesn’t mean it should be the only thing you do. Being in casual mode means you just want to have fun, I’m not saying you should buy the person flowers or cook them dinner, but heading out to a movie or concert isn’t a bad idea either.

If you’re seeking a casual relationship, you should be upfront about it. Honestly is key, and you don’t know what the other person may think. There’s nothing wrong with looking strictly for casual relationships, but there is something wrong about not being honest with those you’re having these relationships with. In today’s age of STD’s that use every letters in the alphabet, saying “I am sleeping with someone else,” can prevent you from being the first case of right-testicular-gingivitis. You also don’t want to lead the other person on; if they think you want something more, it gets a lot trickier after a few nights to explain it was nothing but “fun times” for you.
While there may be something wrong with turning every relationship into a casual relationship, or engaging in nothing but casual behaviors in your relationship – there’s nothing wrong with seeking something casual. Just be careful, and safe when you do.
